Genesee County Health Department
Better Life Through Better Health

Pollution Prevention Week

The Genesee County Health Department is giving special attention to pollution prevention practices during "Pollution Prevention Week," September 20th through the 26th.

Pollution prevention is any practice, which prevents or reduces pollution before it occurs. This can be accomplished by using our natural resources and energy more efficiently and reducing or eliminating wastes. Pollution prevention reduces or eliminates waste through environmentally sound and economically feasible actions. In addition to a cleaner environment community members and businesses can reduce current costs of doing business.

Community members and businesses can incorporate simple changes into their daily activities: turn off lights and appliances when not in use; carpool to work, school, and community events; recycle plastics and paper; reduce heat or air conditioning at night.  Businesses can request a free assessment of their operations to further reduce waste products and costs. Call the Genesee County Health Department at (810) 257-3603 to find out more about pollution prevention.
