Genesee County Health Department
Better Life Through Better Health
Genesee
County Immunization Project
To raise immunization rates among Genesee County children, the Genesee County
Health Department is expanding services to cover 500 family and group day care
homes. Parents and workers will
receive information about immunizations to help assure that children receive
immunizations on a timely basis.
Work with day care centers and group homes builds on extraordinarily
successful efforts with licensed day care centers from 1992 to 1999. Immunization rates of children in licensed day care centers
in Genesee County have gone from 62% in 1992 to a rate of 95% in 1999.
Approximately 4,000 children are placed in these facilities.
The immunization project will work to increase the level of knowledge
about immunizations and vaccine-preventable
diseases in child care providers and parents.
Immunization records of children in the homes will be evaluated.
Children in need of shots will have to obtain them or be excluded,
consistent with state law. Special
clinics will provide increased access to immunization services for parents and
children. For more information
about the immunization project call Marilyn Legacy BSN, MSA Immunization
Supervisor at (810) 257-3634.
