Screening tests are important for people of all ages, but
become especially necessary as we grow older. Age increases the
risk for developing disease, such as breast, colon or prostate
cancer. Early detection is the key to survival. Unfortunately, due
to limited finances, many older people do not seek or receive
these life-saving tests.
The Genesee County Health Department has received a grant from
the Valley Area Agency on Aging (VAAA) to provide health screening
to Genesee county residents age 60 years and older. The screening
can include: breast exams, Pap smears, random cholesterol and
blood glucose testing and vaccines if needed. Screening is free
and will take place at both the McCree Courts and Human Services
Center on South Saginaw St. and The McCree North Health and Human
Services Center on Pierson Rd. To make an appointment, please call
(810) 257-3840 or (810) 785-8530 and ask for Senior Adult Health
Screening.
