The Genesee County
Health Department has been awarded Accreditation with Commendation
by the Michigan Local Public Health Accreditation Program. Following a rigorous
week-long on-site review in 19 competency areas, the Genesee
County Health Department has been found to fully meet all
accreditation requirements plus additional important indicators
meriting special commendation status. In a letter to Robert
Pestronk, Genesee County Health Officer, and Floyd Clack,
Chairperson of the Genesee County Board of Health, James Haveman,
Jr., Director of the Michigan Department of Community Health,
writes: “We wish to
commend you on your efforts in this significant accomplishment.” The designation of
accreditation with commendation is valid for a three-year period.
Begun in 1998, the
Michigan Local Public Health Accreditation Program is a
collaborative effort between the Michigan Public Health Institute
and the Michigan Departments of Agriculture, Community Health, and
Environmental Quality. The mission of the program is to assure and enhance the quality
of local public health in Michigan by identifying and promoting
the implementation of public health standards for local public
health departments, and evaluating and accrediting local health
departments on their ability to meet these standards.
