Genesee County Health Department
Better Life Through Better Health
Special
Immunization Clinic to be Held
The Genesee County Health Department will hold a special
immunization clinic on
Saturday, November 22,
2003
, at the Burton Branch,
located at G-3373 S. Saginaw Street. The
clinic will be open from
9am-12pm
. Immunizations
will be given on a walk-in basis. All
immunization services will be available during those hours.
The goal of the additional clinic is to reduce the number of
children who are over-due for their shots, as well as offer another
opportunity for the public to receive the flu vaccine.
The
best time to receive the flu vaccine is October through November, although
flu vaccine can be given through the entire flu season. The flu vaccine
saves healthcare dollars by keeping people healthy and preventing the need
for expensive therapies and hospitalizations.
The vaccine also helps reduce absences at work, school and social
events, and decreases the spread of illness in the home, workplace and
community.
Vaccines
are low cost for qualifying children.
Qualifying children include: those enrolled in Medicaid, American
Indians & Alaskan Natives, uninsured children and under-insured
children whose insurance has no coverage for vaccinations.
Regular HealthPlus clients will be seen, but must bring their card.
Clients must bring proof of insurance eligibility and shot record.
Proof of income is required for use of sliding fee scales toward
immunization fees.
There
will be an $18.00 charge for the flu vaccine.
Current Medicare card holders need to bring their card to receive
flu vaccine at no cost. Pneumococcal (pneumonia) vaccine will be available
for $25.00.
