RE:  Genesee County Health Department’s Premiere Public Health Symposium

        “Improving the Public’s Health: The Scope and Breadth of Public Health”

            The Genesee County Health Department announces its premiere Public Health Symposium on April 3, 2006 from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the Genesee County Administration Building, Harris Auditorium – 3rd Floor, 1101 Beach Street in Flint, Michigan.

            Speakers include Tony Moulton, Public Health Practice Director, Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta , Georgia , Dr. L.J. Dragovic, Chief Medical Examiner for Oakland County, Michigan , Jim Bergman, Smoke-Free Environments Law Project in Ann Arbor, Jane Speakman, Solicitor, City of Toronto Canada Legal Services, Richard Hill-Rowley, Earth and Resource Science Department, University of Michigan Flint , and Dr. Eden Wells, Michigan Department of Community Health, Bureau of Epidemiology.

The symposium is in conjunction with the National Public Health Association’s (NPHA) Annual Public Health Week, April 3-9, 2006 .  In 1995, former President William Jefferson Clinton proclaimed the first full week of April as National Public Health Week (NPHW). Each year since then, during this week the public health community brings attention to public health issues.

The symposium provides an opportunity for local and regional health, legal, environmental and business people, community residents, and faith-based groups who wish to expand their knowledge about at range of issues which affect the public’s health.
