GCHD Participates in Bike Helmet Fitting

The Genesee County Health Department along with the Grand Blanc Township Police and Genesys Health System are sponsoring a community safety fair in conjunction with the “National Night Out” celebration. “National Night Out” is a nation wide program that brings police and the community together to create a partnership against crime, violence and drugs. The public is invited to attend. Neighborhood groups are encouraged to meet at the event and then continue the celebration in their neighborhoods.

The Community Safety Fair will be held on Tuesday, August 1, 2006 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. , at the Genesys Athletic Club parking lot. The event will feature different community safety resources including: police, fire, ambulance, fingerprinting for children and demonstrations on safety topics such as bicycle safety, substance use prevention and stranger danger.

As part of a grant from the Michigan Department of Community Health, the Genesee County Health Department will be providing free bicycle helmets. The Grand Blanc Township Police Department and Assenmacher’s Cycling Center will professionally fit the free helmets and provide bike safety information for children and family members. For further information regarding the community safety event, please call Kathi Hasenohrl at the Genesee County Health Department at 810-341-5900.
