RE:                          It’s a Good Time to Get Your Flu Vaccine:

2006 Genesee County Health Department Flu Clinic Announced

The Health Department reminds County residents to get vaccinated against influenza. Although many people are vaccinated in early fall, flu season continues through March.  Now is still a good time to be vaccinated.

The Genesee County Health Department in collaboration with the University of Michigan - Flint will be conducting a flu clinic on Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at:

·         University of Michigan Flint – Recreation Center
8:00 am – 12:00 Noon

The site is located on the University of Michigan-Flint campus near the intersection of Chavez Drive and Kearsley Street.  Limited parking will be available in Lot A directly adjacent to the Recreation Center.  Enter the building at the north corner closest to Lot A.  Additional parking will be available in other parking lots on campus.  Posted signs will direct people to the clinic site.  For further information regarding directions, see the University of Michigan - Flint campus map at http://www.umflint.edu/discover_UM-Flint/index.php.

Vaccinations are recommended for anyone who wants to decrease their risk of contracting influenza. Immunization is particularly important for people over age 50, those with chronic illnesses (such as heart disease, lung disease, kidney disease, or diabetes), pregnant women, and children under 5 years old because they are at highest risk for complications of flu.  Those who are in close contact with high-risk people-especially health care workers, people who share the same household, and caregivers are also urged to get their flu vaccines.

The cost of the flu vaccine is $27.00. The clinic will accept cash, checks,  Medicaid, Medicare Part B, Medicare Health Plus, M-Care and Private Health Plus. All other Medicare clients must pay in full.  Clients must have their insurance card and social security number in order to bill their insurance.  Supplemental funding may be available in limited amounts to offset the cost of the vaccine for clients without insurance.  Proof of income must be provided to determine eligibility.

For further information regarding the flu clinic, please contact the Genesee County Health Department Flu Hotline at (810) 257-3887.
