RE: Tuberculosis testing done at Flint Central
High School
The Genesee County Health Department (GCHD) conducted tuberculin skin
testing at Flint Central High School on Tuesday, March 27th. The
skin testing was done to identify people who may have been exposed to a case
of tuberculosis within the school. Initially 139 people were identified as
being close contacts.
Close contacts were defined as people that were in close proximity to the
infected person over a long period of time and within an enclosed space,
such as a classroom. After further
investigation, the number of close contacts has decreased. Sixty-three
close contacts were tested Tuesday. Those who were unable to be tested will
be offered testing on Monday, April 2nd at the school.
The Health Department is in the process of contacting those tested to give
them their results. Preliminary results will be announced after all close
contacts have been offered skin testing. Routine re-testing will occur in
May for close contacts.
Final results from this investigation will not
be available until that time.
There will be a GCHD representative at Flint Central High School on Monday
April 2nd and Wednesday April 4th from 7:30am-12:00pm
to answer any parent, teacher and student concerns.
