RE:
Four local restaurants awarded for providing a smoke-free environment
Congratulations
to Hollywood Diner located on
Corunna Road
in
Flint
, Empress of China on
Dort Highway
in
Flint
, Pearl Dragon located on
Silver Parkway
in Fenton, and BD’s Mongolian Barbeque located on
Miller Road
in
Flint
, for their decision to provide a smoke-free environment.
Providing a smoke-free environment helps protect the health of employees
and customers, while providing a pleasurable dining experience.
According to the
recent Surgeon General’s Report “The Health Consequences of Involuntary
Exposure to Tobacco Smoke,” there is no risk-free level of exposure to
secondhand smoke. The recent 2007
Prevention
Research
Center
“Speak to Your Health Community Survey” Data indicated that nearly 91% of
Genesee
County
adults said they would be more likely to go to a smoke-free restaurant or said
the restaurant’s smoking policy made no difference.
“Customers have been thanking us for going smoke-free, negative
reaction has been non-existent and sales are up” stated Dan Bennett, owner of
BD’s Mongolian Barbeque regarding going smoke-free.
Recently, the Genesee County Health
Department (GCHD) and the Smoke-free, Multi-Agency, Resource Team (SMART)
provided Hollywood Diner, Empress of China Pearl Dragon and BD’s Mongolian
Barbeque with awards of recognition for their commitment to provide Genesee
County citizens with a healthy dining environment as a smoke-free restaurant.
