RE:        Community to Gather to Celebrate Public Health Week 2008

The Genesee County Health Department will be hosting its 3rd Annual Public Health Week Conference to be held on April 8-9, 2008 on the Flint Cultural Center campus, 1120 E. Kearsley St., in Flint, Michigan. The conference is entitled “Building the Future of Public Health:  Refocus Ø Redesign Ø Reenergize.” Its goal is to encourage and celebrate local efforts to improve the public’s health. The conference will feature four nationally-recognized keynote speakers: Julie Gerberding, Director, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; Peter Ajluni, President, American Osteopathic Association; Deborah Prothrow-Stith, Professor, Harvard School of Public Health; and Kevin Stephens, Director, New Orleans Health Department.  The conference will also feature four themed tracks with breakout sessions led by local experts as well as speakers from across the US. These sessions will address contemporary challenges including health equity, social justice, emergency preparedness, mental health, and community-specific public health issues.

The conference is an opportunity for members of local, regional, and state health, legal, environmental, and business communities, as well as community residents and community-based organizations, to learn about and discuss issues important to public health. Attendees will be able to use the information from this event to strengthen their roles, and those of their organizations, in improving health and quality of life in their communities.

On-site registration is $45 and includes the day and a half conference, meals, and evening networking reception. Registration and conference materials can be found at http://www.gchd.us.
