RE:                              National Latino AIDS Awareness Day Health Fair

In recognition of the 6th Annual National Latino AIDS Awareness Day, the Genesee County Health Department (GCHD) will offer free HIV testing, HIV education and prizes to any resident during our “HIV Testing Day Fair” on Wednesday October 15, 2008. The family friendly health fair will be held in the second floor hallway of the Floyd J. McCree Courts & Human Services Building located at 630 S. Saginaw Street in Flint. While any person who is sexually active is at risk for getting HIV, the GCHD recognizes the unequally large impact HIV/AIDS continues to have on our Latino community and how the lack of HIV prevention and care can be challenging to the extended Latino family.

As a Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) designated HIV counseling and testing site, trained GCHD staff will offer free and confidential HIV testing in the adult-teen clinic. The hours for the October 15th health fair are 10:00am to 3:00pm. The GCHD encourages anyone who is sexually active to get tested for HIV. There will be bi-lingual staff available to offer limited assistance during the event. Other GCHD representatives from tobacco prevention, maternal-infant health, and environmental health sections will provide education and outreach. The HIV Fair testing is free to the public, however, any parking fees are the responsibility of the participants. Please contact the Genesee County Health Department at 810-341-5900 if you have questions regarding the event.  Please visit www.gchd.us for further clinic information.
