RE:
April is STD Awareness Month
In recognition of “National STD Awareness Month” the Genesee
County Health Department (GCHD) is offering a “Get
Yourself Tested” (GYT) health fair on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 from 9:00am to 2:00pm. The free health
fair will be held in the commons area on the second floor of the Floyd J. McCree
Courts and Human Services Building located at 630 S. Saginaw St., Flint,
Michigan, 48502.
The Get Yourself Tested
health fair is part of a national movement to encourage testing for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Of the
approximately 19 million new STD’s that occur every year in the United States, most will go
undiagnosed. Diagnosis and treatment of STD’s is critical to safe-guarding personal
health, fostering sexual responsibility and addressing the wider STD epidemic. Testing
for STD’s is easier than ever before and new Rapid HIV tests can provide results as
quickly as 20 minutes.
The GCHD encourages anyone who is sexually active to get tested
and offers STD and HIV testing at the GCHD Adult/Teen Walk-In Clinic at the
McCree South clinic location: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, 7:45am-4:00pm
and Tuesday from 12:45pm-4:00pm. The GCHD Burton Branch, G-3373 S. Saginaw St.,
Burton, offers STD testing Monday, Wednesday and Friday: 8:00 am-4:00pm, Tuesday
1:00pm-4:00pm, and Thursday 12:00-7:00pm. Please visit
