RE:
National HIV Testing Day Event
In recognition of “National
HIV Testing Day” the Genesee County Health Department (GCHD) is partnering with
Wellness AIDS Services, Inc. during their “Take the Test” HIV testing
event on Friday June 25, 2010 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The free HIV testing
fair will be held at the YWCA of Greater Flint located at 310 E. Third Street,
Flint, Michigan, 48502. Event highlights include: free HIV testing, STD testing,
free safe sex information, raffles, prizes and the opportunity to appear in a
National HIV Testing Day promotion for the “Test 1 Million” and “Greater than
AIDS” campaigns. Testing is easy and free!
The “Take the Test”
fair is part of a national movement to encourage routine HIV testing. The
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 250,000 of the one
million people living with HIV/AIDS in the United States are unaware of their
status. Black Americans are 13% of the total population, yet are 50% of all AIDS
cases.
The GCHD encourages routine
testing. For those unable to attend the fair, the GCHD offers STD and HIV
testing at the GCHD Adult/Teen Walk-In Clinic at the McCree Courts & Human
Services Center, located in downtown Flint on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and
Friday, 7:45am-4:00pm, and Tuesday from 12:45pm-4:00pm. The GCHD Burton Branch,
G-3373 S. Saginaw St., Burton, offers STD and HIV testing Monday, Wednesday and
Friday, 8:00 am-4:00pm, Tuesday from 1:00pm-4:00pm, and Thursday from
12:00-7:00pm. Please visit www.gchd.us for
additional information.
