RE: August
is Breastfeeding Awareness Month
August is
Breastfeeding Awareness Month, and the Genesee County Breastfeeding Coalition (GCBC),
together with local La Leche League (LLL) groups are hosting special events to
promote community breastfeeding information, acceptance and support. “Talk to
Me!” is this year’s world-wide message during Breastfeeding Awareness
Month because communication is essential to protect, promote and support
breastfeeding.
On
Thursday, August 4, 2011, the GCBC will host a family friendly health fair at
the Flint Farmer’s Market. The health fair features games, prizes, and also
includes important maternal-infant health information. Meet one-on-one with
Genesee County Breastfeeding Peer Counselors; where you can also sign up for
infant feeding or breastfeeding support groups. The health fair hours at the
Flint Farmer’s Market are 10:00 am - 3:00 pm.
On
Saturday, August 6, 2011, LLL is holding a discounted family miniature golf
event at Uncle Ray’s Dairyland, 1462. N. Leroy St., Fenton, to raise awareness
about the importance of breastfeeding. The event coincides with The Big Latch on
at 10:30 am where women across Michigan and the U.S. will attempt to break the
record for the most women breastfeeding simultaneously. For more information on
this event call Clara at: 248-660-5334. All proceeds from the miniature golf
event will go to LLL Fenton and Grand Blanc to help support local women in their
choice to breastfeed.
