RE: Two local restaurants awarded for providing a smoke-free environment

Congratulations to Mega Coney Island located in downtown Flint , and Grill of India located in the Lincor Plaza in Flint Township , for their decision to provide a smoke-free environment.  Providing a smoke-free environment helps protect the health of employees and customers, while providing a pleasurable dining experience.

More than 4,700 chemicals have been identified in secondhand smoke and at least 53 of these are known to cause cancer in humans.  Secondhand smoke is the third leading cause of preventable death in this country, killing 53,000 nonsmokers in the U.S. each year.  Even half an hour of secondhand smoke exposure causes heart damage similar to that of a pack a day smoker.

The Genesee County Health Department (GCHD) and the Smoke-free, Multi-Agency, Resource Team (SMART) will be providing Mega Coney Island and Grill of India with awards of recognition for their commitment to provide Genesee County citizens with a healthy dining environment as a smoke-free restaurant.
