Did you know that children are getting sick, AND they are
dying from diseases that can be prevented?
|
Your children need your help to keep them protected. Don't risk your child's life to a terrible disease...
especially to a disease that shots can prevent.
Young children are more at risk for developing serious complications from many communicable diseases.
For complete protection, all children should have the following shots by age two:
2
Hep
A
4 DTaP
3 Hib
3 Hep B
3 RV
3 IPV
1 MMR
1 VZV
4 PCV7

Why Children Need Shots...
DTaP/DT/Td/Tdap helps prevent three diseases: Diptheria which can
cause fever, chills and a blocked windpipe; Tetanus, known as
Lockjaw causes breathing problems, extreme pain and often leads to death;
Pertussis, known as Whooping Cough causes severe coughing and pneumonia.
Hep A protects against Hepatitis A
infection. Hepatitis A is a serious
liver disease. It can cause flu like
symptoms, jaundice, or severe stomach pains
and diarrhea.
HepB protects against Hepatitis B infection which can cause inflammation of
the liver. Hepatitis B can lead to cirrhosis and liver cancer.
Hib defends against Haemophilus Influenzae B disease
which leads to meningitis, pneumonia and other serious infections.
HPV helps prevent cervical
cancer, precancerous genital lesions,
and genital warts caused by the Human
Papilloma Virus (HPV)
IPV protects against Polio
which can cause fever, muscle pain,
crippling and death.
MCV4 protects against 4 types
of meningococcal disease, such as
meningitis. Meningitis is an
infection of the fluid surrounding the
brain and spinal cord.
MMR prevents three diseases: Measles, which can cause
pneumonia, deafness, and brain damage; Mumps which can cause
deafness and inflammation of the covering of the brain and spinal cord;
and Rubella which can cause birth defects in unborn children.
PCV7 protects against Pneumococcal diseases
such as blood infections, pneumonia and
meningitis.
RV helps prevent Rotavirus
which is a disease that can cause severe
diarrhea and is often accompanied by
vomiting and fever. Rotavirus is
not the only cause of severe diarrhea
but it is one of the most serious.
VZV defends against Varicella Zoster Virus, or
chicken pox, which can cause fever, skin lesions and other serious
complications.
Immunizations are not just for kids
Many ADULTS think that "shots" or immunizations are
just for kids, but disease has no age limits. Adults need protection
too.
If in doubt about your vaccine needs, see your doctor or visit
the health department.
