Breastfeeding Education & Support
The Genesee County WIC agency and the
American Academy of Pediatrics
recommends breastfeeding for the first
year of life. All WIC agencies have
trained staff ready to assist mothers
with the basics of breastfeeding.
Support
The Genesee County WIC agency provides
educational resources, breastfeeding
support, and
Mother to Mother
Peer Breastfeeding Counselors
to WIC clients. You can contact
the Peers at (810) 237-4606.
The Mother to Mother
Program
is FREE and can help you find
answers to your questions about feeding
your baby. Mother to Mother Peer

What
Makes Breastfeeding So Special?
Does Formula Stack Up to
breastmilk? Some things like protein,
vitamins and minerals are found in both
breastmilk and formula, but other very
important ingredients, are found ONLY in
breastmilk. Antibodies, hormones, growth
factors, anti-parasites and anti-viruses
are just found in breastmilk and cannot
be produced in formula.
Remember, providing your
baby breastmilk is one of the very best
things you can do for him or her!
Breastpumps
WIC may provide a manual breast pump for
those who are partially or exclusively
breastfeeding. WIC may also provide an
electric breast pump for clients who are
exclusively breastfeeding and are
returning to work or school.
Contact
the WIC clinic to find out if you
qualify.
